Dr. Kristin Lowe
Dr. Kristin Lowe (Kris) draws from her wide background melding academics and practical vineyard experience to bring her clients current and relevant advise in maintaining sustainable, healthy vineyards. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Sciences from Cornell University (2000) and Ph.D. from UC Davis and Genetics (2006), where her research focused on grapevine rootstock breeding. Kris has been an active Pest Control Advisor since 2007, continues to teach “Viticulture for Winemakers” for the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Program, and keeps one foot in the academic world through her Research Coordinator positions for the American Vineyard Foundation and the California CDFA Pierce’s Disease/ Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Board.
Every vineyard has a unique set of viticulturally relevant attributes and challenges. Kris works with clients approaching farming from many different philosophies, be it a focus on soil health, carbon counting, regenerative practices, or certified organic. She consults with small vineyard owners, large winery corporations, and everything in between, helping each site develop a comprehensive farming plan. Production goals are balanced with farming practices to promote long term vineyard health, which starts from vineyard development plans, and continues annual pest management, fertilization, and irrigation operations.
She is passionate about working in the interface between viticulture science and practical farming, and shares this passion with her clients in the pursuit of growing premium quality grapes.
